Hospice of Northeast Missouri is a non-profit corporation, member of the National Hospice Organization, and the Missouri Hospice Organization. Hospice care provides an alternative to hospitalization and nursing home placement by supporting the patient and family in the home. This home care program provides a full range of resources which enable the patient and family to manage the illness at home in an atmosphere of love, dignity, and concern. Patients receiving Hospice Care in the home are accepted regardless of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, illness, or ability to pay. However, there is a referral process involved before a patient can received Hospice Care. Referrals can be made by the patient's physician, the discharging hospital, the patient, the patient's family, or any other person. To make a referral call Hospice 2000 (888) 627-9711.
The word "HOSPICE" today defines an interdisciplinary program of care, addressing the medical, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones faced with a life threatening illness. Hospice care is most helpful when families need to learn how to physically care for the patient, or the patient and/or loved ones need physical, emotional, or spiritual support. No patient is denied care because of their ability to pay, for in these cases, United Way funds, community donations/memorials are utilized to meet the needs of patients.
"You matter because you are you. You matter to the last moment of your life and Hospice will do all we can, not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die."
- Dr. Cecily Saunders
