Description of Services and Other Information:
Legal Services of Eastern Missouri(LSEM) provides free legal assistance and equal access to justice to low-income people. LSEM handles family, housing, consumer, education, immigration, health and public benefits, income maintenance, and older adult civil(not criminal) cases. Specifically, the Special Projects Unit(SPU) within LSEM primarily assists people living with HIV/AIDS in overcoming barriers to accessing healthcare. Priority cases in Special Projects Units include: social security disability benefits, Medicare/Medicaid appeals and other issues, Veterans benefits, wills, durable powers of attorneys and health care directives, private health insurance matters, medical privacy/confidentiality, family and medical leave act issues, consumer matters(bearing directly on one's health), and employment matters which bear directly on ability to access affordable healthcare. SPU is available to do community education for service providers, and the larger community concerning SPU services, disclosure and other legal issues and "know your rights" education.

Description of Services and Other Information:
Functional capacity evaluation is an evaluation to assess individuals tolerance for work related activity. Evaluation results provide information of limitations or restrictions the individual may face upon returen to work. It also gives an indication if an individual is ready to return to work or if additional medical intervention may be necessary to help the individual achieve their goal of regaining employment.

Information and referral source, peer and support groups, independent living training, and advocacy for persons with disabilities. Provide support for disabled individuals who do not have adequate housing conditions. Also provides a peer support groups conducted by staff members, who all have a disabling condition.
*An assistive technology outreach center provides resources and funding information as well as hands-on demonstrations of assistive devices and equipment. Independent Living Specialist help persons with disabilities learn specific skills they need to live as independently as they wish.
*The Personal Care Assistance Program helps those with physical disabilities find and train their own personal care attendants
