In addition we offer non-residential crisis intervention, support groups, and court and medical advocacy. Contact Intake Department for determination of other eligibility requirements.Description of Services and Other Information: Legal Services of Eastern Missouri(LSEM) provides free legal assistance and equal access to justice to low-income people. LSEM handles family, housing, consumer, education, immigration, health and public benefits, income maintenance, and older adult civil(not criminal) cases. Specifically, the Special Projects Unit(SPU) within LSEM primarily assists people living with HIV/AIDS in overcoming barriers to accessing healthcare. Priority cases in Special Projects Units include: social security disability benefits, Medicare/Medicaid appeals and other issues, Veterans benefits, wills, durable powers of attorneys and health care directives, private health insurance matters, medical privacy/confidentiality, family and medical leave act issues, consumer matters(bearing directly on one's health), and employment matters which bear directly on ability to access affordable healthcare. SPU is available to do community education for service providers, and the larger community concerning SPU services, disclosure and other legal issues and "know your rights" education.Counties Served: Counties within the Carelink area.Website: www.lsem.org
